Central America! Guatemala City was my first stop on a 3 week tour of the region. I spent a night and day in the crime-ridden city.

 

It is a beautiful but dangerous city. 55 murders per week, and only 5 get caught. Fortunately I had no problems.

Lots of security/police throughout the city.

My hotel had jail bars near the entrance for buzzing in.

Many storefronts had bars protecting. Some store had armed guards.

Yes, a Taco Bell in Central America. There were many of them!

Next stop: Antigua!
